The Disney Contemporary Resort is one of the oldest Disney luxury resorts.  It's easily recognizable with it's A-frame design and the Monorail running through it.

Although older, the Contemporary hotel was recently renovated and rooms were upgraded with flat screen plasma TVs, high speed internet with Wi-Fi, newer furniture and better lighting.

While the theme of this resort is a little unclear, the Monorail running right through the building, along with the room upgrades and Magic Kingdom views, make this a favorite with many Disney fans.

Is it the right resort for you? Here's a review to help you decide:

Theme:  Futuristic (Not easy to tell)

Room Notes:  Rooms are about average size compared to other Disney deluxe resorts.

However the recent renovations make them some of the best rooms at Disney world.  New room updates include flat-screen plasma tv's, high speed internet, newer, more attractive furniture, and better lighting.

You can also get a great view of the Magic Kingdom (although it may be extra).

Dining Options:  You have a variety (if not a lot) of different restaurants at this resort.  There's character dining, full service, counter service, room service, and snacks at the pool and lounge.

Of course, being right on the Monorail, you can also take a quick zip over to the Grand Floridian, Polynesian, Epcot or the Magic Kingdom for even more options:

Chef Mickey's (Character Dining)
Concourse Steakhouse (Full Service)
California Grill (Full Service)
The Wave (Counter Service)

Transportation: Being right on the Monorail is one of the strongest benefits to this hotel.  Here are your other transportation options:

- Monorail to Magic Kingdom, Grand Floridian, Epcot and Polynesian Resort

- Walking distance to Magic Kingdom

- Water Taxi to Fort Wilderness Resort and Wilderness Lodge Resort

- Buses to Epcot, Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom, Downtown Disney, Water parks and Disney Resorts.

Recreation: In addition to the theme parks, there's lots to do at this resort including:

- 2 pools - main one shaped like Mickey's ears with water slide and waterfalls
- Interactive water fountains
- Playground
- Arcade
- Beach
- Fishing
- Marina/Boat Rental
- Water Sports like parasailing, waterskiing, wakeboarding, and tubing
- Fitness Club with Massage/spa services available for extra charge
- Tennis
- Hair Salon

Strengths:

- Monorail runs right through the middle of the hotel for easy transportation
- Rooms are some of the best at Disney World
- California Grill is one of the favorite restaurants with adult Disney guests
- Walking distance to Magic Kingdom
- Can request rooms with view of Magic Kingdom and nightly fireworks.

Weaknesses:

- Theme not very popular with kids

Contemporary Resort Tip: If you want a really special experience, ask for a room where you can see the fireworks from the Magic Kingdom at night.

It may cost you a bit more, but most people find that it's worth it.
