The Disney Polynesian hotel is one Disney's oldest and most popular results.  It was completely refurbished a couple of years ago and rooms were updated with high speed Internet, flat panel TVs and upgrade lighting.

The resort, while older, is still beautiful, complete with waterfalls, tropical flowers and lush vegetation. This resort is a particular favorite with kids and honeymooners.

Is the Disney Polynesian Resort the right hotel for you? Here's a quick review to help you decide.

Theme:  Hawaiian/South-Pacific

Room Notes:  Some of the largest rooms of the Disney resorts. Completely updated a few years back with newer furnishings, better lighting, flat screen TVs and high speed Internet.

You can also request a room with a view of the Magic Kingdom and Cinderella's castle (for an extra charge).

Dining Options:  There are some excellent dining options including several full service, 1 quick service, Character meals and a dinner show. There are also quick snacks available poolside and at lounges. Restaurants include:

Ohana's Best Friends Breakfast with Lilo & Stitch (Character)
Capt Cook's (Quick Service)
Ohana (Full Service)
Kona cafe (Full Service)
Disney's Spirit of Aloha (Dinner show)

Transportation: Again, some of the best transportation options in Disney World including:

- Monorail to the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Grand Floridian and Contemporary Resort.

- Water Taxi to Magic Kingdom and Grand Floridian

- Buses to Epcot, Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom, Downtown Disney, Water parks and Disney Resorts.

Recreation: The Polynesian resort has quite a few options that will suit everyone from children to older adults. Some recreation options are:

- 2 pools - main pool has water slide, volcano and sand bottom
- Children's Wet play area
- Playground
- Arcade
- Beach
- Volleyball
- Fishing
- Marina/Water Sports Rental
- Neverland club (kids' program)
- Jogging Trail

Strengths:

- Excellent customer service
- Great theme that kids and honeymooners love
- Completely updated rooms are some of the nicest of the Disney resorts
- Can watch the fireworks at the resort beach
- Monorail station in hotel

Weaknesses:

- Main pool can be overly crowded at peak times
- No Fitness Center (but guests are allowed to use the fitness center at the Grand Floridian)

Polynesian Resort Tip: If you want a really special experience, ask for a room where you can see the fireworks from the Magic Kingdom at night.

It may cost you a bit more, but most people find that it's worth it.
Editor's Notes: The Polynesian resort may be one of the oldest Disney hotels.  However it has a laid back, relaxing, tropical atmosphere that many people enjoy. If you're looking for a tropical getaway on the Disney property - this is it.
